ENFP is the code for extraverted energy, intuition, feeling-led decisions, and a perceiving preference that would rather keep the next option alive. Commercial sites hang flattering nicknames on it. Ignore the nickname. The letters are a shorthand, the official MBTI is a different product, and this page is an informal guide. The free 16 personalities test will hand you a code. Read it against a normal month.
The pattern people recognize is warmth plus range. You connect a person to an idea, an idea to a second person, and a dull brief to a reason someone might care. You are often the reason a room starts. You are not automatically the reason it finishes. That is not an insult. It is the job design problem hiding inside the compliment.
What the four letters are doing
People and activity usually restore you, until they don't, and the "until" matters. You trust the implication and the possible future sooner than the spreadsheet. When a choice touches people, you check it against values, not only against efficiency. You resist sealing the plan, because a sealed plan can kill a better one that has not walked in yet. The adult version of that resistance is a review date. The adolescent version is a life of almosts.
Type classrooms describe a lead of extraverted intuition, supported by introverted feeling, with introverted sensing as the process that goes strange under stress: body neglect, lost details, a loop of old regrets. Use that only as a prompt to notice whether you are skipping meals and promising things you cannot reconstruct on Friday. It is not science. The group page is diplomat types. If the question is workplace pace rather than values, use DISC.
Work
Early-stage work fits: naming the offer, teaching, community, fundraising, research that is still allowed to wander, any role where seeing a link between two departments is the actual job. You are good at the first conversation with a wary user. You are bad at being the only owner of a twelve-step rollout unless someone else loves step nine. Pair with a person who is bored by the start and calm about the close. Put their name on the plan.
The trap is a calendar that is all performance. You leave every meeting liked and no artifact behind. For thirty days, do not open a new project until one existing promise is either done or explicitly killed. Read the killed list. If it is mostly other people's dreams that you adopted in the room, stop adopting them in the room. Say "I'll tell you tomorrow," and mean it. The work overview is 16 types at work. Conscientiousness, which this model does not measure, is what the Big Five is for. A high-energy letter with low follow-through is a trait score, not a soul.
Relationships
You bond in motion. A long walk, a new city, a conversation that was supposed to be twenty minutes and became two hours. Partners feel chosen, then occasionally abandoned when your attention jumps. Tell them which jumps are the work of your mind and which are a doubt about the relationship. They cannot smell the difference. Novelty is not a verdict on the person who did the dishes.
You need a little air inside a commitment or you start to narrate the commitment as a cage. Ask for the air in advance: one evening a week that is yours, named, not stolen. In a fight you can generate five interpretations before the other person has finished a sentence. Pick one interpretation, check it, and drop the other four. Intensity is not the same as intimacy. Intimacy is what is still there on a quiet Sunday. See 16 types in love.
Stress
Stressed, this pattern scatters, then crashes. More plans, more people, less sleep, a lost wallet, a sharp remark about someone else's routine that is really about your own chaos. Or the opposite: you cancel everything and decide you have been fake for years. Both are depletion. Eat, sleep, and cut the list in half before you announce a new identity.
A good week has one finished object, one unplanned conversation you actually wanted, and one evening with no audience. If you cannot point to the finished object, the warmth is being spent as a substitute for work. Warmth is real. It does not ship the draft.
What people get wrong
ENFP is not a disorder, not a golden retriever, and not proof you cannot do detail. Detail is harder when nobody has told you which detail matters. Ask. ENFP is not INFP, who needs the room to empty before the energy returns. It is not ENFJ, who wants the people organized toward a settled value rather than left in a field of options. It is not ENTP, who will argue a position they do not hold in order to see if it breaks. You tend to argue for a person or a possibility you actually care about, and you feel the collateral.
If the lived problem is "I cannot stand a limit, and I reframe pain into a new plan before I have felt it," that is closer to the motive map on Enneagram type 7 than to a letter code. You can be both. They answer different questions. The sixteen-code overview is here. Do not hire or diagnose with it.
